What it Takes t Beautify the Alaska State Fair Grounds

Presented by: Becky Myrvold, Alaska State Fair Head Gardener/Horticulturist

10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Becky Myrvold is already planning this year’s and next year’s gardens for the Alaska State Fair. Part of the process is the same each year. From her 30+ years of experience, the Fair’s longtime head gardener knows she will use hundreds of varieties of annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables to create 150 hanging baskets, 2000 whiskey barrel planters and to fill the 25 flower beds on the Alaska State Fairgrounds.

Although the gardens will be seen mostly from August 27 to September 7 this year, it takes a year-round effort to bring them to life. Becky will share with us the process she goes through each year to ensure the gardens are at their very best at fair time. She will also share with us some of the seed companies, and flowers that work well to paint this glorious fall picture. Where do you get your inspiration Becky? Who else do you use to pull this perfection off?
